Hess Native Pollinator Garden
Native Garden Transformation….
The Hess Garden was a vision by the homeowner to transform his traditional turf yard into a true pollinator habitat. He asked to provide food, water and nesting places for native pollinators, incorporate an existing vegetable garden and and allow space for art and bird feeders. With grandchildren in mind, the garden was designed to be a fun place to explore, observe and enjoy the beauty of nature.
For design, I envisioned a winding stream of green grass, bordered on both sides with tall, layered shrubs and woody perennials. Each season was considered for bloom times and varieties of plants that would attract a large variety of insects and birds. We added bird baths, log piles, bee houses and feeders to offer the perfect oasis for our native pollinators. This garden grows more interesting each year!
